I am the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Offshore Wind, which brings together MPs and industry leaders to discuss the future of the UK’s offshore wind sector.
As the MP for Edinburgh North and Leith, this work is especially important. Leith has a proud maritime and industrial history, and today it is at the heart of Scotland’s energy transition. The port is already playing a key role in supporting offshore wind development, and I have been pushing for the new GB Energy Edinburgh satellite office to be based in Leith, bringing skilled jobs, investment, and long-term opportunities to our community.
My focus in this group is on:
This work allows me to champion both national priorities and local opportunities, ensuring that Edinburgh North and Leith leads the way in building a cleaner, fairer energy future.
I am also the Deputy Chair and a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Commercial Sexual Exploitation, which brings together parliamentarians, experts, and campaigners to tackle all forms of sexual exploitation.
This work is vital to ensuring that the voices of survivors are heard, that exploitation is never normalised, and that the UK develops policies which protect vulnerable people from harm.
Through this APPG, I support efforts to:
By working across parties, we can push for the stronger protections, resources, and reforms needed to address exploitation and build a safer society.
I am a member of the House of Commons Procedure Select Committee, which examines and recommends improvements to parliamentary procedure and practice. The Select Committee’s work ensures that the House operates efficiently, transparently, and in line with established conventions.
As the MP for Edinburgh North and Leith, serving on this Select Committee allows me to contribute to the smooth functioning of Parliament while ensuring that the voices of all MPs, including those representing coastal and urban communities, are heard.
My focus on the Select Committee includes:
Through this work, I help ensure that Parliament continues to function effectively, adapting to contemporary challenges while upholding democratic principles.
I also sit on the International Development Select Committee, which is dedicated to scrutinising and holding the Government to account in the decisions it takes across all areas of international development work. Through inquiries and evidence sessions, we work with domestic and global partners to ensure that support can be provided to the most vulnerable communities across the world, including those impacted by war, natural disasters, and environmental crises.
International development has faced real challenges in recent years, from cuts to the US and UK aid budgets to questions over how support is delivered and who it truly benefits. I believe the UK must remain a constructive partner in addressing poverty, inequality, and climate change, but we must do so in a way that is transparent, accountable, and rooted in genuine partnership rather than one-sided solutions.
In this role, I contribute to:
Through the Select Committee, I work to ensure the UK continues to use its soft power of influence across the world to play its part in shaping fairer international systems that recognise our responsibilities, support those most in need, and help deliver a more sustainable and secure future for all.
