I am a member of the House of Commons Procedure Select Committee, which examines and recommends improvements to parliamentary procedure and practice. The Select Committee’s work ensures that the House operates efficiently, transparently, and in line with established conventions.

As the MP for Edinburgh North and Leith, serving on this Select Committee allows me to contribute to the smooth functioning of Parliament while ensuring that the voices of all MPs, including those representing coastal and urban communities, are heard.

My focus on the Select Committee includes:

  • Reviewing and modernising parliamentary procedures to make the House more efficient and accessible.
  • Conducting inquiries into specific procedural issues, such as the rights of independent MPs or improvements to voting arrangements.
  • Engaging with parliamentary staff, experts, and stakeholders to inform recommendations.
  • Publishing reports that guide reforms and strengthen democratic accountability.
